St Oswald’s Church is taking part in England’s largest festival of history and culture. Along with thousands of other places of interest, it will throw open its doors to celebrate local heritage, community and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.
On Sunday 16th September from 2-4pm visitors are welcome – there will be guided tours of our church’s historic highlights and its churchyard and church volunteers will be service teas throughout the afternoon.
The history of the building mirrors life in the town: there is the remains of an ancient rood cross, now inside the church building next to the font, some beautiful stained glass windows, many donated by local families and aristocracy, and the churchyard contains a number of WW1 war graves.
